Exploration through S.T.E.M

It was our first day exploring through S.T.E.M. There was a lot of failure, perseverance, success and FUN!!! We are really trying hard to learn about being resilient. It is ok to try something and not have it work out. Just keep at it until you are successful. We are looking forward to trying again next Friday.

Brain Gym

It was raining during brain-break today, so we decided to have Brain Gym for our break instead. Keeping our bodies moving, and having a little rest for our brain was fun. Some of the moves were trickier than others, but we persevered.

Place Value game

Today we played a Place Value game to better understand the meaning of numbers. We were given a whiteboard with a digit written on it. Then someone without a board said a large number. We then had to quickly rearrange ourselves in to the correct order to display that number.

A visit from Lester Hall!

Room 1 were ecstatic today to have a visit from local artist Lester Hall. We have been doing some art works based on his tiki, and it was so amazing to hear more about it from the artist himself. We had lots of great questions to ask, and learned a lot about his career.
We were so lucky to each receive a print of his tiki work, and had to get him to sign them.
Thank you so much Lester!

Haast Eagle

For reading a couple of groups were learning to Make Connections and read about the Moa and the Haast Eagle. Their follow-up activity was to measure it out and draw it with chalk. Next they took a photo, and using Explain Everything label their photo. Here are some of the tamariki enjoying some mahi tahi outside the classroom.

Te reo

This morning's te reo lesson warm-up. Matching the pikitia with the correct reo. A lot of great korero had here. If we didn't know a word we figured out HOW to find out by using several different options such as asking a buddy, using the maori dictionary online and breaking the words down and linking them to our prior knowledge.
